The club which was founded in 1966, is run by volunteers and is non-profit making. It is a fully affiliated and registered training centre with the RYA (The Royal Yachting Association).

The Club caters for sailors of all abilities, and we are particularly proud of our junior membership and youth squad. In 2012 we were awarded ‘RYA Club of the Year’.

We welcome new members, both those wishing to learn for the first time or more experienced sailors keen to join in our racing programme.

Adult & Junior Sailing

Adult Sailors We offer a complete programme of courses from learning to sail through to racing and performance sailing. If you’ve done some sailing before but just need a hand to get going again then we run ‘Back on the Water’ which does exactly what it says! As a member you have access to the Powerboat 2 and Safety boat qualifications and as you progress there are opportunities to become Instructors (Dinghy, Powerboat and Windsurfing)

Junior Sailors Starting at 8 years of age young sailors follow the RYA Stage 1-4 Youth Training Scheme and quickly get into racing. Apart from receiving certificated courses our younger sailors meet regularly on Sunday mornings for coaching and are welcome to join in the club racing. Many of our younger sailors join the RYA Zone Squads and Development Squads and take part – and win – national events or progress to becoming instructors themselves.

Competitive fleet sailing We run a very active fleet league system for Saturday and Sunday club racing and hold several open events when visitors join us in competitive class sailing. Our Sailing Secretary and Fleet Captains are experienced sailors and provide advice and coordinate fleet specific training. Our current fleets are: Laser Fleet, Solo Fleet, Asymmetric Double Handers, Symmetric Double Handers and the Single Handers Handicap Fleet. We also have the Sailboards Fleet and the Topper Fleet for the Youth Squad. You can read more about our fleets... here

The Reservoir – the 140 acre reservoir is owned by Anglian Water and is a peaceful location for fishing or bird watching. We allow disabled assistance dogs only on our club premises. Our car parking, designated boat and trailer parking, modern changing facilities with hot showers, are all in close proximity to the water. Our galley or ‘Tea Bar’ operates on a voluntary basis serving freshly prepared meals and other refreshments during our opening times. Our fully licensed bar and lounge area provide sailors and their guests the opportunity to socialise after a hard day sailing.

Boats for hire and boat parking We have a range of dinghies (and buoyancy aids) for hire at very reasonable rates. We recommend that if you are new to sailing you do not immediately buy a boat. If you do own your own boat you can keep and use it at the club for an annual craft fee. Insurance - All boats sailed/kept at Hollowell must be insured for third part liability to a minimum value of £2,000,000.

Social activities Our members enjoy a full programme of informal and formal social events including BBQs and camping through the warmer months. Our annual prize giving is attended by more than 80 members as is our Summer Party. For those who do not plan to sail you can still join as a social member and enjoy the benefits of beautiful surroundings and constant on-the-water entertainment!

Duty Obligations

What does membership entail? - we charge fees of course, but importantly we place great value on the contribution of time. Each member is asked to contribute a minimum of two full days ‘duty’ each year to enable us to deliver a very full programme of activities. Many of our members also give their time freely to operating the club, as committee members, or providing instruction and training on our courses and to the upkeep of the buildings and grounds.

Hollowell Reservoir is set in an attractive valley in the north of Northamptonshire just off the A5199. Leicester is approximately 20 Miles north, and Northampton 10 miles south. When approaching from the north you will need to go through the village of Guilsborough. This has a shop with take-away food and a Pub. From Northampton turn-off at Creaton and after going through Hollowell village turn right at the top off the hill. Watch out! - club entrance is hidden by the bend. Our postcode NN6 8RN

Joining Us

In 2015 we implemented a system called WebCollect which is an internet based membership system. This was originally developed in 2010 for sailing clubs, but is now used extensively by sporting clubs, charities and professional bodies across the UK to manage their membership records and subscriptions.

The main benefit for the Club is that it will considerably reduce the administration overhead by enabling new membership applications and membership renewals to be performed on-line by members in much the same way as they would purchase products from on-line retailers such as Amazon. The system also allows members to update their details e.g. address, contact numbers etc. on-line, and will delivers cost savings to the Club by reducing the amount of paperwork and postage incurred every year at renewal time. The system can also be used to collect booking fees for Training Courses and Social Events.

Do I have to purchase and renew my membership on-line through WebCollect?
To reduce costs, the club actively encourages members to use WebCollect wherever possible, but recognises that not everyone likes to transact using the Internet, so the system has also be configured to enable membership applications and renewals to optionally be processed using forms sent through the post. Please contact our Membership Secretary.

What do I need to do to be able to use WebCollect?
In order to start the process of joining you will first need to register with WebCollect. All you need is a valid e-mail address which is used to login to your WebCollect account. You will also need to set up a password of your choice. Please be aware that for technical reasons your WebCollect Account Login id (i.e. e-mail address) and password is different to the Login id used to book duties (DutyMan).

What payment methods are available?
The club's preferred method is Bank Transfer as this minimises effort for the membership secretary and is inexpensive to process. If preferred, payments can also be made by Cheque. Cash payments are not normally accepted. WebCollect will support Debit/Credit Card and PayPal payments, but because the club processes a very small number of transactions, the costs of using these methods are quite high. The club is currently investigating the feasibility of this, but if adopted, the additional costs would have to be passed on to the member

Are my details safe when using WebCollect?
Absolutely. All personal and banking details are protected in much the same way as for any other Internet retailer. The following is an extract from the WebCollect site."All personal, including any card, details are fully encrypted using 256 bit SSL encryption. We are fully compliant with Payment Card Industry standards (PCI DSS) and are a registered Data Controller under the Data Protection Act. We will not share your members' information with any third parties, except for the limited purpose of processing payments. We will not contact your members for marketing purposes, ours or anyone else's".

I'm not sure how to use WebCollect, what help is available?
The system automatically leads the user through the pages that need to be filled in according to the products that have been selected. These should contain all of the necessary information and prompts to guide the user through the process, but if you have any queries, please feel free to call the Membership Secretary for further advice.
