You can make sailing what you want it to be – relaxing or high-adrenaline, sociable or secluded, on sheltered inland waters or on the open sea. Sailing is one of the most rewarding, healthy, outdoor activities you can take part in.
Sailing teaches youngsters self-reliance, inspires confidence and sociability. Sailing offers families the opportunity to have fun together, or to grab single-handed escapism from time to time! On-Board is ideally suited to school groups and teaches children to sail over 4 sessions, while our Taster sessions are for young and old, and give an experience of sailing.
If you become a member there is support available to get you on the water such as Back on the Water, Coaching and Ladies Fun days.
Adult/Youth/Children group sessions - an evening on the water
Hollowell Sailing Club offer taster sessions for groups of up to twelve participants to have a go at dinghy sailing under the watchful eye of our qualified instructors. Taster Sessions are a great way to get on the water for the first time or to try out a new sport. We run taster sessions regularly throughout the early part of the year 6th May to 18th July, aiming to be on the water for 6:30pm and last approximately 1½ hours.
Please aim to arrive at the clubhouse by 6:00 to 6:15pm to allow us time to get you kitted out for the evenings fun. (Obviously the weather conditions on the day can dictate how long we are on the water for). Sessions are open to groups of all ages from 8yr upwards.
There is a small charge of £5 per child / £7.50 per adult and snacks and hot drinks are available in the clubhouse. If you want to try sailing before committing to the full price of a course then a taster is for you.We have leaflet/poster with more information here. View a Youtube link here

The OnBoard scheme is a programme to introduce more young people to this fantastic sport. We welcome applications from local schools who would like to send a number of pupils to learn the basics of sailing. Some of our new junior members can also learn to sail on this course. Once you have achieved Stage 1 of the Youth Sailing Scheme you are welcome to join the Sunday morning Youth Coaching
At Hollowell Sailing Club, as part of the OnBoard scheme, you will be taught the basics of sailing in four Tuesday night sessions starting at 6pm and finishing at 8.00pm. The sailing is in small sailing boats appropriate to age and size.

This maybe for you.........
OK …so you’ve done Level 1 or 2, or you did some sailing in the dim and distant past, but you may lack some confidence about actually getting out on the water. You don’t need a formal course, just some help. Then Back On The Water may be for you. Over six Thursday evenings qualified instructors will be available to help you rig, launch and sail. As the weeks progress they will even help you go faster and introduce the basics of the rules and racing in an informal manner. At the end of it you should be able to join in the simple Thursday personal handicap race.

Informal sessions to encourage and support the learner.
The informal ‘GO SAILING’ sessions will take place on eight occasions in the season. Five are on Saturday afternoons, and three on consecutive Thursday evenings. They are intended for people who have just completed their Level 1 or 2 courses, or back on the water. Perhaps also the less experienced sailor.
Just come along, and if required, you will be paired up with another colleague to Go Sailing. An Instructor will be on hand to help you rig, reef, and launch if you need it and to answer any questions.
For these sessions there is no course fee and use of the Club Hire boats are half price and you may have to share/rotate if there are a number of students.
