Originally designed in 1932 it is the first British designed and built single handed dinghy that has now celebrated over 92 years of putting smiles on its helms faces.
The modern British Moth can come in a number of guises including:- All wood (Severn Sailboats) FRP deep and self draining Cockpit options (Claridge). The boat is also suitable for home build and there is the option to buy a BMBA approved FRP hull and finish at other boatbuilders or at home. The class rules allow for helms to choose the spars and foils that best suit them.
2022 season celebrated 90 years since the boat’s designer came up with his plans for what at the time was something quite revolutionary. The class attracts all ages from youngsters to those in their eighties. At the annual National Championship boat ages range from those built in the 1950’s to those that have been built only a few weeks before the competition.
2024 season’s Nationals took place at the wonderful (and very windy) Hollowell Sailing club.
