(FOR NON-MEMBERS)
These sessions are designed to give you a taster of what sailing is all about. You will learn to rig the boats, go for a sail with an instructor on board, have a go at helming yourself, then return to the shore to de-rig.
The session starts at 1830 and finishes just around 2000.
Fee is £10 per adult and £7.50 per child. Maximum of three participants in the boat at any one time. (For families of four we can swap people out half-way through). Children should be 5 or over.
To book follow through on our WebCollect booking page and pick the date you would like to TRY SAILING.
If Tuesday evenings are difficult for you we have opportunities under our DISCOVER SAILING open mornings, where you will get a chance to have a short sail.
Email Andrew Wood our Tuesday Coordinator, for more information and to discuss availability dates and group sizes
So it's the beginning of the new season. Now is the time to get back on the water and GO sailing. This course acts as a refresher for those who feel they may need a hand, or who want to brush up their skills.
There are a total of 9 BoW sessions, and you can book on each session individually for just £10 a session (£20 non-members). Use of the HSC hire fleet is FREE but if you know which boat you want to use please book it IN ADVANCE on WebCollect. Of course you can use your own boat. For the Thursday evenings you should be rigged and ready by 1800 at the latest, although we hope to start earlier if you can make it. For Saturday mornings be rigged and ready by 1045. Hopefully you can join in the races in the afternoon.
Course Dates:
BoW 1 : 8, 15, 22 May (Thur eve)
BoW 2: 26 June,3, 10 July (Thur eve)
BoW 3: 19 July, 2 Aug, 16 Aug (Sat morning)
Although you can book on any of the 9 individual days it may be advantageous to you to book on one of the three courses, as we can progress over the three days in that course.
Typical things to be covered on a course:
a) Start sailing skills ( rigging, tacking and gybing)
b) Basic skills (coming alongside a pontoon, Man over Board, slow boat handling skills)
c) Basics of racing.
Feel free to do as many courses as you want to build your confidence.
