Try Sailing / Open Mornings / Back On The Water
Three ways to discover or rediscover sailing.
Try Sailing
(FOR NON-MEMBERS)
At HSC we offer Try Sailing Sessions for families or individuals on Tuesday evenings from May through to July
These sessions are designed to give you a taster of what sailing is all about. You will learn to rig the boats, go for a sail with an instructor on board, have a go at helming yourself, then return to the shore to de-rig.
The session starts at 1830 and finishes just around 2000.
Fee is £10 per adult and £7.50 per child. Maximum of three participants in the boat at any one time. (For families of four we can swap people out half-way through). Children should be 5 or over.
To book follow through on our WebCollect booking page and pick the date you would like to TRY SAILING.
Email Andrew Wood our Tuesday Coordinator, for more information and to discuss availability dates and group sizes EMAIL
Open Mornings - Discover Sailing
(FOR NON-MEMBERS)
If you're looking for a fun activity that you can pursue alone, or with family and friends, then sailing is definitely for you! Whether you are aged 8 to 88, our 'Discover Sailing' Open Day and Taster Sessions are a great opportunity for you and your family to get out on the water and find out what this wonderful sport is all about. Would you like to learn a new skill, or build your children's confidence on the water?
No experience required and all ages welcome!
We supply buoyancy aids for adults and for children, so just make sure you dress up suitably warm – layers are always recommended even in the hot weather, as the breeze on the water can be surprising. Sensible flat shoes or trainers with good grip would be also be essential. We use RS Quests and Wayfarer dinghy's as training boats. They can take up to four people.
Our trained instructors will be on hand from your arrival as well as club representatives to answer your queries about joining or learning to sail courses. We are all very friendly, so feel free to ask us anything! You are welcome to stay longer and enjoy a snack or a drink from our galley. We have a lovely viewing area at the front of our club where you can watch the sailing or relax and take in our unique atmosphere.
The exact programme for the day is dependent on weather conditions and subject to alteration.
These tasters sessions are FREE - however, you will need to register and login with WebCollect to proceed with your booking.
Back On The Water
(Open to members and non-members)
This maybe the course for you....
So it's the beginning of the new season. Now is the time to get back on the water and GO sailing. This course acts as a refresher for those who feel they may need a hand, or who want to brush up their skills.
There are a total of 9 BoW sessions, and you can book on each session individually for just £10 a session (£20 non-members). Use of the HSC hire fleet is FREE but if you know which boat you want to use please book it IN ADVANCE on WebCollect. Of course you can use your own boat. For the Thursday evenings you should be rigged and ready by 1800 at the latest, although we hope to start earlier if you can make it. For Saturday mornings be rigged and ready by 1045. Hopefully you can join in the races in the afternoon.
Course Dates:
Although you can book on any of the 9 individual days it may be advantageous to you to book on one of the three courses, as we can progress over the three days in that course.
Typical things to be covered on a course:
a) Start sailing skills ( rigging, tacking and gybing)
b) Basic skills (coming alongside a pontoon, Man over Board, slow boat handling skills)
c) Basics of racing.
Feel free to do as many courses as you want to build your confidence.
