Youth Squad Training (Sunday AM)

Over time there is progression from taught sailing to ‘Race Coaching’ and members who have passed Stage 1 can join in the Sunday coaching sessions and races. These sessions take the Juniors right through from learning to sail to Club Racing. From there they progress to local events and through to the RYA pathway. Along the way a lot of fun is had with Pirates Days, Family Camping, and summer activities.

Training every other Sunday morning from 13 April until 20 July, and after the summer break from 31 Aug to 12 Oct. Timings 0930 (rigged and ready) to 1230. Continuation race training for our higher group takes place over the winter.

Young sailors are positively encouraged and welcome to join in with all Club activities. Sailors without boats of their own can use the club's fleet of race rigged Toppers, Optimists, RS Teras, Laser Pico, RS Feva, Hartley H12/2 or the Club's Laser Radial or 4.7

There is a very friendly and active youth section, with high quality coaching for the beginner and improver throughout the season. The Club is a leading member of the Northamptonshire Junior Circuit and regularly sends representatives to major national youth events such as the Eric Twiname National Junior Finals and National Schools Regatta.

P & B - Northamptonshire Youth Series

These events are aimed for all abilities from the very inexperienced to the better sailor. The emphasis is on having a go rather than winning. The format is always training in the morning and racing in the afternoon.

There are lots of opportunities for juniors to sail in events in the Midlands: the fixture list (above) summarises these including Optimist and Topper events and the P & B series that is for any junior class boat. Two of the events are at Hollowell so it would be great to get a good turn out from Hollowell sailors for these events. Most of these events are less than an hour away from Hollowell so well within reach for a day trip. If it’s anyone’s first time sailing away from the club and they want some advice or want to borrow a boat they can contact Graham Smith
