There is a very friendly and active youth section, with high quality coaching for the beginner and improver throughout the season. Junior members who have passed Stage 1 can join in the Sunday Youth Coaching sessions for only £50/year. You can take part in your own boat or hire a club one. Youth Coaching is divided into the Development Squad and the Advanced Squad. The Development Squad includes anyone who has stage 1 or stage 2 and will work to achieve their next RYA stage (2 or 3 as appropriate). We will track progress over the season and will award certificates as sailors achieve them. The Advanced Squad is for sailors who already have stage 3 or higher, and may be sub-divided for some sessions depending on numbers and experience. The Advanced Squad sessions include racing skills, seamanship and possibly double handed sailing (skills needed for progression to assistant instructor). The Advanced Squad are encouraged to stay and join in club racing on Sunday afternoons and to start sailing in local junior class events – winter race coaching is available for these sailors.

Young sailors are positively encouraged to join in with all Club activities including club racing. Hollowell is a leading member of the Northamptonshire Junior Circuit, hosting junior events and regularly sends representatives to major regional and national junior events.
A good place to start junior racing is with the P &B Northamptonshire Youth Series. These events are aimed for all abilities from the very inexperienced to the better sailor. The emphasis is on having a go rather than winning. The format is always training in the morning and racing in the afternoon.
Fixture list to come
There are lots of other opportunities for juniors to sail in events in the Midlands: the fixture list (above) summarises these including Optimist and Topper events and the P & B series that is for any junior class boat. Two of the events are at Hollowell so it would be great to get a good turn out from Hollowell sailors for these events. Most of these events are less than an hour away from Hollowell so well within reach for a day trip. If it’s anyone’s first time sailing away from the club and they want some advice or want to borrow a boat they can contact Graham Smith
